The Los Angeles Dodgers recorded their seventh series sweep of the season on Thursday night, matching their total from 2016. What’s more, it was the Dodgers’ first four-game sweep of the New York Mets since May 1979, and their first overall sweep of them since August 2013.
The win was the Dodgers’ 13th in their past 14 games. They’ve now produced two six-game winning streaks, and their current, season-best seven-game winning streak in the past 27 games. Thursday’s game followed a similar path as the previous night’s.
Curtis Granderson’s leadoff home run in the first inning gave the Mets an early lead that was erased.
Justin Turner’s two-out home run in the bottom of the third tied the game. Two batters later, Kiké Hernandez’s two-run homer gave the Dodgers a lead.
The ball continued to fly in the fourth, as Travis d’Arnaud took Hyun-Jin Ryu deep for a solo shot. Lucas Duda’s RBI double off Chris Hatcher in the sixth pulled the Mets even with the Dodgers.
That was short lived, however, as Joc Pederson crushed the first pitch he saw for a leadoff home run in the bottom of the seventh. Pederson’s homer sailed more than halfway up the pavilion in right center field.
Walks by Pedro Baez and Austin Barnes with the bases loaded extended the Dodgers’ lead to 6-3, which held as the final score. Los Angeles set a franchise record with most home runs (15) hit during a four-game series.
