While Major League Baseball is officially in its offseason, fans are patiently counting down the days until Spring Training. Along with that comes the annual release of PlayStation’s MLB The Show video game.
The latest iteration, MLB The Show 17, releases March 28, 2017. The release date coincides with the conclusion of Spring Training and falls just before the start of the regular season. Ken Griffey, Jr. graces the cover, and along with his recognizable swing, factors prominently into the game.
The first gameplay trailer was recently released, and it features Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager. The unanimous 2016 National League Rookie of the Year has the honor of appearing twice in the video.
At the 23-second mark, Seager pulls a hit inside the first-base line, which is shown via a keen camera angle from the umpire’s point of view. Seager’s next appearance is at the 50-second mark, when he’s part a barrage of home runs being hit.
Additional information, such as player ratings, will be made available in the coming weeks. Clayton Kershaw and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim center fielder Mike Trout shared the honors for best player rating in MLB The Show 16, with each receiving a 99 overall rating.
Yasiel Puig graced the cover of MLB The Show 15, which is an accomplishment Seager may one day reach.
MLB The Show 17 is sold exclusively on PlayStation, with three available versions to purchase ($59.99 Standard, $69.99 MVP and $99.99 Digital Deluxe).
