As Spring Training is set to kick off in less than two weeks, the long MLB offseason has nearly come to a close. For many fans, the unofficial start of the season begins with the annual release of PlayStation’s MLB The Show video game series.
This year’s edition, MLB The Show 18, is set for release on March 27, 2018. Fans that pre-order at Best Buy, GameStop, the PlayStation Store, Target or Walmart will get early access to the game on March 23 during First Pitch Weekend.
New York Yankees slugger and 2017 American League Rookie of the Year Aaron Judge is highlighted on this year’s cover and is also featured prominently in the first gameplay trailer.
The trailer also includes Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman and fellow reigning Rookie of the Year, Cody Bellinger, who appears twice in the video.
At the 45-second mark, Bellinger is shown sliding into home plate, which is followed by him clapping his hands in celebration of scoring. Bellinger’s next appearance in the clip is at the 1:28, when he pulls a home run into the right field pavilion at Dodger Stadium.
Additional information, such as player ratings, will be made available in the coming weeks. For the second consecutive year, Clayton Kershaw and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim center fielder Mike Trout shared the honors for best player rating in last year’s edition, with each receiving a 99 overall rating.
MLB The Show 18 is sold exclusively on PlayStation, with four available versions to purchase ($59.99 Standard, $69.99 MVP, $99.99 Digital Deluxe and $99.99 All-Rise).
