The Los Angeles Dodgers lost a franchise icon last year when longtime broadcaster Vin Scully passed away at the age of 94. His illustrious career with the organization spanned 67 seasons, from Brooklyn to L.A., and included multiple World Series titles and an endless list of awards.

Scully was the soundtrack of baseball for generations of Dodgers fans, including celebrities such as six-time Emmy Award-winning actor Bryan Cranston, who remembered the Hall of Famer during a recent appearance on “Hot Ones.”

Cranston recalled some of his favorite Scully quotes, including from Kirk Gibson’s walk-off home run in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series and Fernando Valenzuela’s no-hitter in 1990.

Cranston also credited Scully for helping him navigate a rough childhood with his Dodgers commentary on the radio.

Cranston has several ties to the Dodgers as he previously emceed Clayton Kershaw’s annual Ping Pong 4 Purpose celebrity tournament and participated in the 2022 Celebrity All-Star Game at Dodger Stadium.

Cranston also presented Scully with the Icon Award during the 25th edition of the ESPYs in 2017.

“I don’t have a relative in the world who would make that kind of a trip,” Scully said at the time of Cranston flying to Los Angeles from New York for the sole purpose of presenting him with the award.

ESPN gives the Icon Award to “individuals whose careers have left a lasting impression” in sports. Among others to receive the honor include New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter (2015), Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant (2016), retired NFL quarterback Peyton Manning (2016) and retired Olympic gold medalist Amy Wambach (2016).

2023 Dodgers promotional schedule includes Vin Scully giveaway

The first half of the 2023 Dodgers promotional schedule includes 15 stadium-wide giveaways, and among them is a Vin Scully jersey on April 18. It is to commemorate the 73rd anniversary of his first Dodgers broadcast in 1950.

The Scully jersey features his last name on the back and microphone in place of a number, much like his retired plaque on the Dodger Stadium Ring of Honor.
