The Los Angeles Dodgers have dealt with a rash of injuries within their starting rotation, and although Tyler Glasnow remains out, there’s been steady improvement for Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Brusdar Graterol of late.
Yamamoto has been on the 60-day injured list while recovering from a right rotator cuff strain that at one point potentially put his 2024 season in jeopardy.
Meanwhile, after multiple setbacks that delayed his season debut, Graterol threw just eight pitches before suffering a right hamstring strain. It initially was believed to be a season-ending injury, but an MRI revealed Graterol’s injury to be a more manageable Grade 1 hamstring strain.
Both pitchers are on the mend and looking to make an impact for the Dodgers pitching staff in September.
Dodgers updates
Yoshinobu Yamamoto
Yamamoto has twice faced batters, with his most recent simulated game coming Aug. 21. Yamamoto threw two innings and now is poised to begin a rehab assignment this week.
“He’s going to go to Round Rock,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “Triple-A with OKC, pitching on the road on Wednesday. So he’ll throw a bullpen on Monday, and then Wednesday he’ll head out.”
Oklahoma City’s road series is also going to see Jacob deGrom on a rehab assignment as he starts for the Round Rock Express on Tuesday night.
The Dodgers have not publicly stated how long Yamamoto’s rehab assignment will need to be, but it stands to reason he’s likely to make at least two starts before any consideration is given to activating him.
Brusdar Graterol
Graterol has largely kept active since suffering his right hamstring injury on Aug. 6, and he also will soon begin a rehab assignment.
“He threw a bullpen [Saturday],” Roberts said. “He is going to go out on rehab next week, and so I’m still counting on him.”
