Dodgers Injury News: Tony Gonsolin Remains Shut Down From Throwing

The Los Angeles Dodgers transferred Tony Gonsolin to the 60-day injured list on June 19, which made him ineligible to return until Aug. 6.

He is dealing with right elbow discomfort, but the bright side is an MRI revealed the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in Gonsolin’s right elbow remained intact.

It’s been close to two months since Gonsolin initially was placed on the IL, and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that the right-hander still has not started playing catch.

Gonsolin’s current outlook isn’t clear, but the organization should have a better idea once he hopefully begins a throwing program.

“He’s around and doing his Tony things. But as far as picking up a baseball, I haven’t seen that yet,” Roberts said. “Once he starts stretching it out, gets to the mound, I think it’ll be more clear.

“But right now, I do know he hasn’t picked up a baseball yet.”

Gonsolin has thrown 36 innings for the Dodgers with a 5.00 ERA and 1.42 WHIP across seven starts this season.

The loss of Gonsolin proved to be a challenge for the Dodgers’ pitching staff and still is to an extent, but the team’s health is beginning to improve.

Shohei Ohtani has been a welcome addition to the rotation, even in limited bursts. Emmet Sheehan is back up with the team, and Tyler Glasnow is on the verge of returning to the Dodgers rotation this week.

Tony Gonsolin ‘frustrated’ by right elbow injury

Gonsolin began 2025 on the injured list because of a minor back issue that stemmed from a workout late in Spring Training. It caused Gonsolin to miss the first 30 games of the season, but this latest injury is much more concerning given his Tommy John procedure from 2023.

The reality of the situation has hit Gonsolin hard and he is extremely frustrated by the position he finds himself in, but he’s still holding out hope that he can contribute this season.

Gonsolin’s right elbow discomfort began sometime after his start against the New York Mets on June 4 with what he believed was general fatigue, but worsened over time.
