Although the Los Angeles Dodgers welcomed back Tommy Edman this week, they have gone the majority of the season without their full roster.
As it currently stands, Ben Casparius, Edwin Díaz, Tyler Glasnow, Brusdar Graterol, Kiké Hernández, Teoscar Hernández, Evan Phillips, Blake Snell, Will Smith, Brock Stewart and Gavin Stone all are on the injured list.
Kiké Hernández started in two games before revealing he suffered a left oblique injury while taking batting practice before his season debut. Meanwhile, Graterol won’t pitch this year after having back surgery.
Dodgers news and updates
Teoscar Hernández
Teoscar Hernández has been out since May 29 due to a Grade 1 left hamstring strain. He faced pitching in a simulated game at Dodger Stadium on Thursday and remains on track to start a rehab assignment.
“Went well. Got out of it well, feels good. From what I understand, he’s going to go out on an assignment early next week,” Roberts said.
The expectation is Hernández will join Triple-A Oklahoma City for a rehab assignment that Roberts estimated would be a minimum of four games.
“Because the first games are probably going to be two at-bats, and then another two or three,” Roberts explained. “So I don’t see it being less than four or five games.”
Evan Phillips, Brock Stewart
Phillips and Stewart both are in the midst of rehab assignments, though the latter was back at Dodger Stadium for family day on Wednesday. Stewart is nearing a return, while Phillips is still multiple weeks away.
“They’re both doing well and going through their buildups as far as on the rehab side of things,” Roberts said. “Brock is getting really close. He’s just a tick ahead of Evan. Don’t know when that’s going to be, but Brock’s doing everything we’ve asked, checking all the boxes.
“Evan is probably early part of July. We’re in a good spot with both of those guys, but I don’t know when we’ll decide on Brock first.”
Stewart started the season on the injured list because of last year’s right shoulder surgery, and only appeared in two games before a bone spur in his left foot became an issue.
Phillips has yet to pitch this year, which was expected after having Tommy John surgery in June 2025.
Blake Snell
Given that he was transferred to the 60-day injured list, Snell isn’t eligible to be activated until Friday, July 10. He nevertheless continues to make progress toward a bullpen session since having surgery May 19 to remove loose bodies from his left elbow.
“I talked to Blake before the off day and he said it’s just coming really easy as he’s stretching it out,” Roberts said. “I don’t know what day they’re targeting as far as him throwing a ‘pen, but he’s pretty amped up.”
Snell continued playing catch from flat ground on Saturday and followed that with some throws off the mound to a standing catcher.
