Dodgers Break MLB Record For Best Start As World Series Champion & With Comeback Wins

The Los Angeles Dodgers completed a sweep of the Atlanta Braves behind Shohei Ohtani’s walk-off home run on his bobblehead night to finish a perfect homestand.

With their sixth comeback win of the season, the Dodgers improved to 8-0 as they expanded on their best start in Los Angeles franchise history. Only the 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers (10-0) and 1940 club (9-0) had better starts to a season in franchise history.

“What it is, in my opinion, is we continue to take good at-bats,” manager Dave Roberts said Wednesday. “I think there was an at-bat to start one inning, where (Michael) Conforto walked. He took some borderline pitches and it led to Tommy’s (Edman) homer that got us back into the game.

“Just being able to take walks, work counts, allows us to get back into games without getting hits. And then we can kind of wait for that big hit, which we’ve gotten in these first eight games.”

With their 8-0 record, the Dodgers broke a tie with the 1933 New York Yankees for the best start by a defending World Series champion.

Furthermore, the Dodgers are the first team in MLB history to start a season 8-0 despite trailing in at least six of their games.

“My same answer every night, I feel like we’re going to win,” Roberts said.

“It looked bleak early with Blake (Snell). He wasn’t sharp, just missing, the walks in there. But our guys persevered. I think each night we’re unbeatable. We’ll see how that works out.”

Up next for Dodgers

After going undefeated on their first homestand of the regular season, the Dodgers now travel to the East Coast for six games against the Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Nationals.
