The Los Angeles Dodgers opened their homestand with a 5-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies behind a quality start from Tyler Glasnow.

The right-hander ran into some early trouble in the second inning when the Phillies strung together three consecutive hits with two outs to take a 2-0 lead. They were aided by Andy Pages misplaying a ball in center field and Glasnow throwing a wild pitch.

The 30-year-old would retire the next nine batters before the Phillies added a third run on an RBI groundout in the sixth. Glasnow got through the inning and finished his night with nine strikeouts.

“I felt a little out of whack. But I think the days you feel like that, you just kind of empty your brain and just try to go compete,” Glasnow said after the game.

“So I think the positive today for me was just ignore how I feel and just go and try to attack the zone.”

Glasnow didn’t have his best stuff against the Phillies but was still pleased with the results. “Yeah, I guess with how I felt and how it turned out, yeah, it was all right. Some work to do, but it was good,” he said.

Glasnow relied on his slider more than usual in the start against the Phillies, which he felt was necessary to offset his fastball.

“I think I’ve been getting a little predictable with heaters and sequencing and stuff. So I’m just trying to mix that in a bit more,” Glasnow explained. “Last start and this start, I feel like I’ve used it a lot more.”

Overall this season, Glasnow has thrown a fastball 45.5% of the time and the usage of his slider is 27.1%.

Tyler Glasnow trying to find rhythm

Glasnow has now thrown two consecutive quality starts after struggling in his first two outings off the injured list. “Probably over the course of my career, yeah,” he answered when asked if he’s gotten better at finding rhythm.

“It’s kind of up and down, but I do feel like it’s trending up over my career, for sure.”
