The Los Angeles Dodgers reported early to Camelback Ranch for Spring Training this year due to their season opener in South Korea giving them a start time of about one week ahead of every other team, with their opponent, San Diego Padres, the only exception.
Typically, Spring Training begins at the conclusion of the NFL season, but that has been changed due to the early report dates for the Dodgers and Padres.
The Super Bowl has yet to be played, but the Dodgers already have their pitchers and catchers in camp working out. Many position players are at Camelback Ranch as well, but their official report date is Tuesday.
Super Bowl 58 between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers is Sunday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. Due to the game’s status as an unofficial national holiday, it would not be surprising if the Dodgers hold a watch party at their Spring Training facility following the day’s workouts.
The watch party could serve as a team-bonding experience to help build chemistry with a group that features many new faces, including Tyler Glasnow.
Although the right-hander may be looking forward to hanging out with his new teammates, he isn’t all that excited for Super Bowl LVIII.
“I don’t watch a lot of football,” Glasnow said. “I like to hang out with my friends and watch sports and stuff. It’s just fun, but I’m not super into it.”
Despite not caring about the NFL, Glasnow still made his guess for the winner of the game, without much confidence.
“Not any good ones. I can assume,” Glasnow said when asked if he has a prediction. “I feel like the Chiefs are going to win. But again, I don’t know anything, so who knows?”
If Glasnow is correct, the Chiefs, led by superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes, would be the first NFL team to win back-to-back Super Bowls since the 2003 and 2004 New England Patriots when they defeated the Carolina Panthers and Philadelphia Eagles.
Only eight teams in NFL history have won the Super Bowl in consecutive seasons, and just six more have made it in consecutive years but lost the second of the two games.
However, the 49ers have been one of the best teams all offseason and feature many explosive players on offense, including Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle, while also having a strong defenss.
Because of their deep and talented group, the 49ers are two-point favorites to win the game.
DodgerBlue.com staff Super Bowl 58 predictions
Matthew Moreno (@Matthew__Moreno): Not really sure of a score prediction, but I think the Chiefs will beat the 49ers.
Patrick Mahomes is one of the best quarterbacks and difference-makers in the NFL, and you could argue the 49ers are extremely lucky to even be in the Super Bowl with how their playoff games went against the Packers and Lions.
Blake Williams (@ByBlakeWilliams): 49ers win 26-20. Maybe I’m just hoping the Patriots remain the last back-to-back winners, but I’m already focused on the draft either way.
Daniel Starkand (@DStarkand): I got the Chiefs winning in a close one, 27-23. It’s tough to bet against Patrick Mahomes in big games, and I could never willingly pick the 49ers.
Scott Geirman (@ScottGeirman): I don’t have a score. I’m saying Chiefs, but only because of Taylor Swift.
Matt Borelli (@Mcborelli): Chiefs 27, 49ers 24. Can’t bet against Mahomes and the Taylor Swift effect is real. Kelce catches the game-winning touchdown in the final minute of Super Bowl LVIII.
