2024 MLB All-Star Game Pitchers: Tyler Glasnow Named To National League Team

Tyler Glasnow was among the pitchers named to the National League roster for the 2024 MLB All-Star Game. It’s a first career selection for Glasnow in nine seasons.

He was acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays during the offseason and signed a contract extension with the Los Angeles Dodgers as part of the trade.

“I guess it’s never really been about making as much as I possibly can,” Glasnow said about his new five-year, $136.5 million contract with the Dodgers. “It’s been a lot more about somewhere I want to be and the life I could live. Just being comfortable at the field and outside of the field.

“I was lucky enough with the Rays to really enjoy my life at the field, because they’re the same as the Dodgers. Everyone is a good person and it’s not this crazy, high-stress atmosphere. You go, everyone is cool and there to do their job. And then outside of the field, I was able to relax and enjoy my life.

“I think L.A. was really somewhere I wanted to be, my family is there. I think there’s two ways to look at it. There could be a potential downside from not signing something and a potential upside. For me, it was plenty of money. I’m super happy with the money and it’s somewhere I’m super happy to be.

“I was never super interested in trying to get as much as I possibly could. It worked out really well for me.”

The right-hander has lived up to his potential as a frontline ace and helped anchor their starting rotation.

Glasnow leads the NL with 143 strikeouts and 11.8 strikeouts. Earlier this season he made MLB history by becoming the first pitcher since at least 1988, when pitches were first tracked, to accumulate 14 strikeouts in a start while throwing fewer than 90 pitches.

Glasnow 8-5 with a 3.47 ERA and 0.93 WHIP through 18 starts so far this season. Glasnow’s record likely would be improved if not for a stretch of five consecutive starts where the Dodgers failed to provide much — if any — run support while he was in the game.

Glasnow’s importance to the Dodgers has magnified with Yoshinobu Yamamoto going on the 15-day injured list because of a right rotator cuff strain, and Bobby Miller not yet finding much rhythm this year.

Tyler Glasnow’s All-Star Game history

Glasnow is heading to his his first career All-Star Game in 2024.
