The Los Angeles Dodgers are casting a wide net in their search for a frontline starting pitcher and have been linked to some of the biggest names available this offseason.
Corbin Burnes was mentioned as an early possible target, but the Milwaukee Brewers may hold on to him and attempt one last playoff run with their current core of players.
Other top-tier starters who could be on the move include Chicago White Sox ace Dylan Cease and Tyler Glasnow of the Tampa Bay Rays. The Dodgers have expressed interest in the All-Star pitchers and match up well with both teams on a potential trade.
According to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, Cease and Glasnow remain top targets for the Dodgers:
As the Dodgers look for pitching help — Chicago’s Dylan Cease and Tampa Bay’s Tyler Glasnow have emerged as primary targets — some of their position-player depth could be particularly valuable via trade.
Cease posted a 4.58 ERA and 1.42 WHIP this past season but is only one year removed from having a 2.20 ERA, 3.10 FIP and 1.11 WHIP in 184 innings en route to a second-place finish in American League Cy Young Award voting.
Cease is under team control through the 2025 season by way of salary arbitration. Thus, any team that acquires him during the offseason would have the 27-year-old in their rotation for two full seasons.
Glasnow went 10-7 with a 3.53 ERA, 2.91 FIP, 1.08 WHIP and 12.2 strikeouts per nine over a career-high 120 innings pitched (21 starts) this year.
The right-hander comes with injury concerns as he has exceeded the 100-inning threshold in a single season only twice. Glasnow is due to earn $25 million next year and could potentially reach free agency after the 2024 season.
Dodgers history could help facilitate Tyler Glasnow trade
Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman previously oversaw the Rays’ front office, and that history could help the teams complete a Glasnow trade.
With Randy Arozarena also rumored to be on the market, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Dodgers attempt to expand a hypothetical trade for Glasnow. Particularly with now having an opening in the outfield because of plans to play Mookie Betts at second base.
