In the weeks leading up to the MLB trade deadline on July 31, the Los Angeles Dodgers were said to be most focused on acquiring a high-leverage relief pitcher.
The Dodgers’ bullpen has been heavily relied on this season as they lead the Majors in innings pitched by a wide margin. That can be attributed in part to numerous injuries ravaging the starting rotation, although the group has gotten healthier.
The Dodgers have been linked to several high-end relievers in their search for bullpen help, including Emmanuel Clase of the Cleveland Guardians, the Minnesota Twins’ Jhoan Duran and Ryan Helsley of the St. Louis Cardinals, among others.
It appears the Dodgers have finally found a solution as they are reportedly nearing a deal to acquire Brock Stewart from the Twins, via ESPN’s Jeff Passan

The Dodgers’ trade comes one day after the Twins sent Duran to the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for prospects Mick Abel and Eduardo Tait. There were conflicting reports on the Dodgers’ level of interest in Duran, or other top relief pitchers who are available.
Also on Wednesday, the Cardinals traded Helsley to the New York Mets for Jesus Baez, Nate Dohm and Frank Elissalt.
Stewart is set to join the Dodgers for a third stint with the organization. He was originally drafted by the Dodgers in the sixth round in 2014 and made his MLB debut with the team in 2016.
This year with the Twins, the right-hander went 2-1 with a 2.38 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in 39 appearances. Stewart is under team control through the 2027 season via arbitration.
Dodgers bullpen reinforcements
Prior to the addition of Stewart, the Dodgers recently saw the return of Blake Treinen and Michael Kopech is due to rejoin the bullpen next month as well.
Moreover, Brusdar Graterol could still pitch this season and Joe Kelly might be an option down the stretch after working out for the team.
