The Los Angeles Dodgers not only have won back-to-back World Series but they’ve done so by also maintaining one of the top farm systems in baseball.
In a shift from recent years, the core of top Dodgers prospects is headlined by a group of outfielders rather than young pitchers. There also is a drop off among infielders and catchers in the Dodgers farm system.
According to Katie Woo of The Athletic, the Dodgers are looking to bolster the overall depth of their prospects at the trade deadline this year.
However, the primary focus for the back-to-back champions isn’t on the major-league roster, according to multiple sources familiar with the club’s thinking who were granted anonymity because of the sensitivity of the subject.
The Dodgers want to improve the depth of their minor-league system and are prepared to part with at least one of their top outfield prospects not named Josue De Paula to do so.
The Dodgers specifically are said to be in search of young talent with considerable upside rather than immediate-impact prospects.
Los Angeles is believed to be searching for high-ceiling prospects in a potential trade and isn’t necessarily coveting major-league-ready talent in a return.
Josue De Paula, Eduardo Quintero, James Tibbs III, Mike Sirota and Zyhir Hope are the best outfield Dodgers prospects. Behind them are the likes of Kendall George, Chuck Davalan and Zach Ehrhard, and that’s where the team may look to trim from in order to fill a need.
George recently started a rehab assignment after suffering a left knee injury when making a quick movement to avoid colliding with a bat dog. The Tulsa Drillers subsequently suspended their bat dog program that had been in place since 2022.
Dodgers prospects ranked
In the updated MLB Pipeline ranking of prospects, the Dodgers had nine Minor Leaguers included in the publication’s top 100.
De Paula was first from the organization to appear, checking in at No. 4 overall. Sirota was ranked 11th, Hope at No. 19, Quintero is No. 32, Emil Morales checked in at No. 48, River Ryan is 71st, Davalan is No. 88, Christian Zazueta debuted at No. 91, and Tibbs was ranked No. 97.
Of the aforementioned group, only Ryan has made his MLB debut. Ryan is expected to spend more time with the Dodgers this season but is again dealing with a hamstring injury.
De Paula is projected to make his MLB debut at some point during the 2027 season.
