The Los Angeles Dodgers traded Minor League infielder Daniel Castro to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for Kristopher Negrón, who has played seven different positions throughout his Major League career.

Negrón appeared in 10 games for the Mariners, batting .227/.261/.227 with one RBI and one stolen base. Prior to joining the Mariners for the first time this season, the 33-year-old hit .310/.396/.503 with 15 doubles, 12 home runs and 61 RBI in 82 games for Triple-A Tacoma.

In 139 games over parts of six seasons in the Majors, Negrón has hit .216/.289/.328 with 13 doubles, seven home runs and 25 RBI. His presence will allow the Dodgers to place Kiké Hernandez on the 10-day injured list.

He was removed from the Freeway Series finale due to a left wrist/hand injury and underwent X-rays, which came back negative. However, Hernandez dealt with continued pain and required an MRI.

The Dodgers didn’t announce the results from the additional testing but manager Dave Roberts said Hernandez was headed for the IL and limited to playing the field or pinch-running during the three-game series against the Washington Nationals.

Castro spent the majority of this season with Triple-A Oklahoma City, where he hit .241 (40-for-166) with six doubles, one home run and 11 RBI in 45 games. He signed a Minor League contract with the organization last November.

While the Dodgers continue to pursue potential trades for a relief pitcher, they now have acquired two position players in the past few days. They previously traded Minor League pitcher Andre Scrubb to the Houston Astros in exchange for Tyler White.

In similar fashion to injury issues with Hernandez and Chris Taylor playing a factor in the Dodgers trading for Negrón, they moved to acquire White ahead of placing David Freese on the 10-day injured list.
