The Los Angeles Dodgers earned a 3-0 win over the Los Angeles Angels in the Freeway Series opener at Dodger Stadium, propelled by Clayton Kershaw’s six shutout innings and three solo home runs from Max Muncy, Chris Taylor and James Outman.
The exhibition shifts to Angel Stadium for the final two games before the Dodgers return home for an Opening Day matchup against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Noah Syndergaard is making his final tuneup of the spring on Monday and will be followed by Ryan Pepiot in the series finale.
In what has seemingly become a tradition, Dodgers third base coach Dino Ebel will be mic’d up for an in-game interview during Monday’s Freeway Series game. The 57-year-old is typically interviewed by SportsNet LA broadcasters Joe Davis and Orel Hershiser during stretches of play.
Ebel’s first in-game interview during the Freeway Series in 2019 went viral on social media for his insight as he chronicled several facets of the job.
It has become common for several Dodgers players to be mic’d up in games over the course of a season. Mookie Betts, Justin Turner and Hanser Alberto were among those who had the honor during various ESPN Sunday Night Baseball broadcasts last year.
Back in 2020, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts pushed back against the idea of his players doing interviews mid-game and seemed to shut them down moving forward, but that may have been geared specifically toward the playoffs.
Dino Ebel enjoyed representing Dodgers in 2023 World Baseball Classic
The Dodgers were well-represented throughout the 2023 World Baseball Classic as they had seven players from their 40-man roster participate in the international tournament. Ebel also served as the third base coach on manager Mark DeRosa’s Team USA coaching staff.
“It’s exciting. When I was told they picked me as third base coach, I was excited,” Ebel told DodgerBlue.com of the opportunity to coach third base for Team USA.
“It’s something I always wanted to do, represent our country and be with which I think is called the Dream Team of baseball.”
