The Los Angeles Dodgers are off to a roaring start as defending World Series champions, and with that has come making MLB history.
The Dodgers are the first team to ever start a season 5-0 while also scoring at least 30 runs, drawing a minimum of 20 walks, hit 10 home runs, have their pitchers combine for at least 55 strikeouts and not commit any errors.

Similar to last season, the Dodgers have been led by a collective effort at the plate. Tommy Edman leads the team with three home runs, while Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman and Shohei Ohtani are tied for second with two each.
Both of Betts’ home runs came against the Detroit Tigers on Friday night, and given they occurred in the late innings — with the second being a walk-off in the 10th — he made MLB history.

Teoscar Hernández, who provided a go-ahead two-run double on Saturday, leads the Dodgers this season with six RBI. Hernández’s extra-base hit came immediately after the Tigers decided to intentionally walk Ohtani with two outs in the fifth inning.
Ohtani and Will Smith are tied for the Dodgers lead with five walks so far this season.
On the Dodgers pitching front, Yoshinobu Yamamoto has looked every bit the comfortable ace manager Dave Roberts spoke about seeing throughout Spring Training. Yamamoto set a career high with 10 strikeouts in his start against the Tigers.
Among Dodgers relievers, Anthony Banda, Ben Casparius, Luis García, Tanner Scott, Blake Treinen, Alex Vesia and Kirby Yates are tied for the team lead with three appearances. Banda, Casaparius, Treinen and Yates are yet to allow a run in 2025.
Dodgers undefeated season
When the Dodgers improved to 4-0, it marked the first such start in franchise history since the 1981 team opened the season with six consecutive wins. The Dodgers now are the first defending World Series champion to start a season 5-0 since the Tigers in 1985.
Overall, the 2025 Dodgers are the fourth defending MLB champion to be 5-0 or better, joining the aforementioned Tigers, 1933 Yankees (7-0) and 1934 New York Giants (5-0).
