Dodgers Spring Training: Tyler Glasnow Pitched In ‘B’ Game

With the Seoul Series quickly approaching, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Tyler Glasnow are continuing to build up ahead of potentially facing the San Diego Padres in South Korea.

Yamamoto made his second start of the spring against the White Sox on Wednesday and gave up five runs on six hits over three innings of work. It was a step back for the right-hander, but he did collect four strikeouts with his patented split-finger fastball.

The left side of the Dodgers’ infield didn’t do Yamamoto many favors as Gavin Lux struggled to finish plays at shortstop and Max Muncy was charged with an error in addition to also letting a ball get by him.

As Yamamoto started against the White Sox, Glasnow took the mound in a Minor League game on the backfields of Camelback Ranch, via Juan Toribio of MLB.com:

Tyler Glasnow, the Dodgers’ other co-ace, also took the mound on Wednesday in a ‘B’ game, allowing two runs over four innings.

The final line suggests that Glasnow struggled during his outing, but he was presumably testing some things like Yamamoto did in his respective start. He also racked up strikeouts in the start, which is an encouraging sign.

Glasnow has now made three appearances this spring, including two previous Cactus League starts. He allowed one run on four hits over 1.2 innings of work in his 2024 debut against the Los Angeles Angels.

The 30-year-old was even better in his second start against the Cleveland Guardians, issuing just one walk and collecting five strikeouts over three scoreless innings.

Glasnow will likely pitch in two more games before the Dodgers break camp for their two-game series against the Padres in South Korea.

Dave Roberts wants Tyler Glasnow to build off 2023 season with Rays

Glasnow is coming off a solid year with the Tampa Bay Rays that saw him go 10-7 with a 3.53 ERA, 2.91 FIP, 1.08 WHIP and 12.2 strikeouts per nine in 120 innings pitched over 21 starts.

“I think with Tyler, considering he came from the Rays, there’s a lot of things we think a lot alike and see things pretty similarly,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts recently said.

“And also the fact that he’s been in the big leagues for quite some time. So there’s not as much opportunity as we see in some other players, so I think for us, it’s just kind of building off what he did last year.

“That was the most innings he’s ever thrown. So just continuing to have the dialogue, keep him healthy and know that if he’s healthy, he’s going to perform.”
