With Opening Day of the 2022 regular season fast approaching, the latest round of Los Angeles Dodgers Spring Training roster cuts involved Yency Almonte, Reyes Moronta, Shane Greene, Tomás Telis, Tony Wolters, Eddy Alvarez, Kevin Pillar and Stefen Romero being re-assigned to the Minors.

The eight players were the final non-roster invitees still in big league camp with the Dodgers. That group included Jake Lamb, who was re-assigned shortly after first pitch on Sunday night.

Each was signed to a Minor League contract at various stages during the offseason or early into Spring Training.

Almonte, who has Major League experience with the Colorado Rockies, threw six scoreless innings over five relief appearances in Spring Training. He presumably will be among the relief pitchers the Dodgers give consideration to as a call-up at some point during the season.

Two-time Olympic medalist, Alvarez, put together an early push to earn a bench spot on the Dodgers’ Opening Day roster. However, Alvarez cooled a bit at the plate and Edwin Rios put together a strong showing.

Nevertheless, Alvarez hit three home runs in just 19 at-bats over 14 games.

Greene received limited opportunities during Cactus League play as he only appeared in two games.

Moronta made four appearances for the Dodgers during the exhibition schedule and allowed three runs on three hits over 3.1 innings pitched.

Pillar was a dark horse candidate to be with L.A. come Opening Day, but that would have required a 40-man roster move as well. He only batted .118 in eight games, but gives the Dodgers another outfielder with Major League experience.

Romero was thought to be an option for the designated hitter spot that now is in the National League, but he too struggled to hit. Romero went 2-for-13 with one double and one RBI over six games.

Telis had three hits, including a home run, and three RBI across seven Cactus League games. Wolters went 1-for-10 with one double and one RBI in eight games.

2022 Dodgers Opening Day roster outlook

Manager Dave Roberts confirmed the Dodgers Opening Day roster will feature 16 pitchers and likely include Rios as well. With their series of moves to send players to the Minors, those who will be part of the 28-man expanded roster has become much more clear.

Essentially, the team needs to decide on final bullpen spots as their bench should consist of Hanser Alberto, Austin Barnes, Gavin Lux and Rios.

Walker Buehler, Julio Urias, Clayton Kershaw, Tony Gonsolin and Andrew Heaney will make up the Dodgers’ starting rotation.
