The Los Angeles Dodgers made their first round of 2023 Spring Training roster cuts following Monday’s game against the San Diego Padres, with Robbie Erlin, Landon Knack and Nick Nastrini among those assigned to Minor League camp.

Dylan Covey, Yusniel Díaz, Bryan Hudson, James Jones, Nick Robertson and Jordan Yamamoto were cut as well. Each of the aforementioned players remain eligible to appear in Cactus League games for the Dodgers despite no longer being part of big league camp.

Covey has appeared in two games thus far, allowing one run over a combined three innings out of the bullpen.

Díaz also played two games with the Dodgers before being assigned. One of those came Sunday against the Chicago White Sox, when Díaz contributed with an RBI single hours after hitting a home run in a B game at Camelback Ranch.

Erlin started against the Chicago Cubs on February 26, then appeared out of the bullpen one week later. He’s pitched a combined two scoreless innings in spring.

Hudson turned in a scoreless appearance for his 2023 debut but followed that by allowing three runs to the Cincinnati Reds.

Jones also had a scoreless showing in his first Spring Training game, only to then allow two runs that resulted in the Los Angeles Angels mounting a comeback in the ninth inning to tie this past weekend.

Knack was the most notable roster cut as he’s among the heralded Dodgers pitching prospects who could make an impact at the big league level this season. The right-hander has allowed two runs over 2.2 innings across two relief appearances so far in spring play.

Nastrini, who was selected in the fourth round of the 2021 MLB Draft, has yet to pitch in a Spring Training game for the Dodgers.

Robertson is in his third Spring Training with the Dodgers, and has allowed just one hit while collecting three strikeouts in two innings across a pair of relief appearances this year.

Yamamoto has allowed a homer and at least one run in each of his three relief appearances, amounting to a 19.29 ERA in just 2.1 innings pitched.

Dodgers Spring Training roster breakdown

The Dodgers Spring Training roster now is at 59 players (28 pitchers; 31 position players), though that includes Daniel Hudson, Gavin Lux and Alex Reyes, each of whom are injured. Lux is expected to miss the entire 2023 season due to a torn ACL and sprained LCL in his right knee.

Meanwhile, Hudson is likely going to be placed on the 15-day injured list and not be included on the Dodgers Opening Day roster. Reyes won’t return from right shoulder surgery until multiple months into the season.

The number of Dodgers non-roster invitees to Spring Training remaining in camp are eight pitchers and 11 position players.
