Dodgers Spring Training Highlights: Miguel Varags, Miguel Rojas, Noah Syndergaard & Max Muncy Shine Against Padres

The Los Angeles Dodgers received contributions throughout their lineup on Monday en route to an 8-3 win over the San Diego Padres. With the victory the Dodgers swept their two Cactus League matchups with the Padres.

Miguel Rojas got them off to an early start at Camelback Ranch as his two-run double sparked a big second inning. Rojas later hit a solo home run, his first of the spring.

Prior to that, Freddie Freeman added an RBI double in the second inning. Will Smith’s base hit scored Freeman, Max Muncy contributed an RBI double, and he then scored on J.D. Martinez’s two-out single.

Jonny DeLuca’s RBI single extended the Dodgers’ lead to 8-0 in the seventh inning.

Dodgers pitching was stellar throughout the day, led by three perfect innings from Noah Syndergaard. He didn’t throw more than nine pitches in a single frame and collected two strikeouts.

Syndergaard’s fastball velocity got up to 94 mph, which represented a slight increase from his 2023 debut.

Dustin May followed Syndergaard with three scoreless innings of his own. May didn’t allow a baserunner until a one-out infield single in the sixth inning. The Padres getting their first baserunner wound up leading to some trouble as a walk and error loaded the bases before May could get out of the inning.

Dodgers prospect Gavin Stone impressed in the eighth inning, but Justin Bruihl and Jake Reed couldn’t preserve the shutout. Bruihl issued a walk and hit a batter before coming out due to injury.

Dodgers adjust plans with Gonsolin

The Dodgers are enjoying their first off day of Spring Training on Tuesday, but need to adjust their pitching plans coming out of it due to Tony Gonsolin suffering a sprained left ankle.

Gonsolin was the scheduled starter for Wednesday’s game against the Seattle Mariners, but is being replaced by Michael Grove. The Dodgers have not yet announced when Gonsolin will return to the mound.
