The Los Angeles Dodgers have been swinging red-hot bats this spring, and that continued Wednesday night when they hosted the Colorado Rockies at Camelback Ranch and came away with an 11-6 victory.
Kiké Hernandez got the scoring started for the Dodgers in the bottom of the second inning as he launched a three-run home run off of Rockies starter Jon Gray. Hernandez provided all of the Dodgers offense until the later innings as he then smacked a two-run double in his second at-bat.
Overall this spring, Hernandez is batting .308/.455/.846 with three home runs and 12 RBI, succeeding against both left- and right-handed pitching.
With the game tied at five in the bottom of the seventh, the Dodgers put a two-out rally together as Cody Bellinger drove in Chris Taylor with a single. Matt Kemp followed with a single of his own, and then Yasiel Puig doubled to drive in Bellinger.
Jake Peter, who leads the Dodgers in RBI this spring now with 14, followed Puig’s hit with a two-run single. For good measure, Kyle Farmer hit a booming two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth to cap off the 11-6 victory.
Farmer is vying for a spot on the 25-man roster out of Spring Training, and he is making a good case as he is batting .500/.577/1.100 with three home runs and nine RBI in 20 at-bats.
