The Los Angeles Dodgers backed Dustin May with home runs from Jonny DeLuca, Michael Busch and Ryan Ward in an 8-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds to earn a split in Cactus League play.
Dustin May turned in four scoreless innings while holding the Reds to two hits and one walk. May’s pitch mix was sharp throughout the outing and he finished with seven strikeouts. The outing was third in Cactus League play and second start.
May was staked a 1-0 lead in the third inning thanks to DeLuca hitting his first home run of Spring Training. The Dodgers added onto that when James Outman drove a two-run double to center field.
That was followed by Busch hitting what was also his first homer of the spring. Two batters later, Ward connected on his first home run as well.

David Freitas extended the Dodgers’ lead with an RBI single in the seventh inning and Jorbit Vivas capped off their scoring by driving him in with a double.
Dodgers pitching
Following May’s scoreless outing was Phil Bickford and Victor González also not allowing a run in one scoreless inning each. Those were encouraging performances from both relief pitchers as they’d previously struggled.
Wander Suero allowed a solo home run, but Adam Kolarek and Jack Dreyer handled the eighth and ninth innings without allowing a run.
