Dodgers Spring Training: Freddie Freeman Sets Goal For First Cactus League Game

The Los Angeles Dodgers welcomed their entire roster to Spring Training on Saturday for the first full-squad workout at Camelback Ranch.

Having such a star-studded team makes for headline material, and getting everyone back in the mix after a long season in 2024 includes a few players still on the mend. Among them is Freddie Freeman, who underwent offseason surgery on his right ankle.

Freeman battled through the ankle injury through the duration of the postseason, and despite the troubling nature of the injury, went on to win World Series MVP for his performance.

The 35-year-old appears to be getting himself in shape at a steady pace and hopes to be in the Dodgers lineup for Cactus League games by the end of th emonth, per Cary Osborne of Dodger Insider:

Freeman has another target should everything progress. He’s looking at getting in Cactus League games on Feb. 27 or Feb. 28.

Freeman batted .282/.378/.476 with 35 doubles, two triples, 22 home runs and 81 RBI last season. But it was his postseason heroics that put a fire into the Dodgers, and Freeman’s resilience was a catalyst for their overall drive.

Freeman won’t be pushed more than necessary during Spring Training, but he’s been known for being one of Major League Baseball’s iron man-type players who don’t like missing games.

Since 2021, Freeman has appeared in 626 of a possible 648 regular season games.

How will the Dodgers keep Freddie Freeman on track

Freeman wasn’t supposed to start taking swings at such an early date, but on Saturday, he was seen taking live batting practice.

Freeman’s health appears to be in a great spot, and the Dodgers are likely to rely on his overall feel with where he’s at with his rehab.

One of the next steps toward the veteran playing in Spring Training games is beginning to run rather than being limited to an anti-gravity treadmill as he currently is.
