Dodgers Spring Training: Corey Seager Likely To Skip Freeway Series

UPDATE (March 27, 12:00 p.m.): Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Corey Seager may join the team in the Freeway Series finale at Dodger Stadium on Sunday.

Including Sunday, the Los Angeles Dodgers have five games in four days remaining in Arizona. While Spring Training at Camelback Ranch is winding to a close, the club will break camp and return to California for a three-game exhibition Freeway Series.

The Dodgers are faced with multiple questions for the regular season, in part due to injuries. That in some regard applies to Corey Seager, who last played in a Cactus League game on March 3. He returned that afternoon after missing three games due to a bruised right shin.

Seager’s stay in the lineup was short lived as he suffered from upper back soreness the following afternoon. It was then described as more of an oblique injury.

Seager participated in a pair of Minor League games last week, playing shortstop in one of the contests. Pressed for time to get back into the swing of things for the regular season, it’s plausible Seager will remain at Camelback Ranch when the Dodgers break camp, per Ken Gurnick of MLB.com:

Seager is healthy, but might miss Freeway Series games to stay in AZ and work on his swing.

Seager is 0-for-5 with one walk in three Cactus League games. He has previous experience in missing time during the spring, having been limited to just 20 at-bats last year due to a mild left knee sprain. He did appear in all three Freeway Series games in 2016.

After that all the young shortstop did was go on to be named the unanimous selection for National League Rookie of the Year.
