The Los Angeles Dodgers had signed a majority of their class from the 2025 MLB Draft heading into deadline day, but there were still some holdouts, including fourth-round pick Aidan West and 17th-round selection Sam Horn.
The deadline for all MLB teams to sign their 2025 Draft picks was 2 p.m. PT on Monday.
Four of the 315 players selected in the first 10 rounds of this year’s had yet to sign their professional contracts less than 24 hours ahead of the deadline.
The Dodgers avoided losing West to his North Carolina State commitment and also signed Horn on Sunday, according to Jim Callis of MLB.com.
The Dodgers did so by reaching into their bonus pool savings from other signings to get both West and Horn under contract:
Aidan West signs w/@Dodgers for $1,272,500 (slot 135 value = $544,900). Maryland prep SS, nice lefty swing, growing into some pop, solid speed. North Carolina State recruit. @MLBDraft pic.twitter.com/9JFKaP9hXA

17th-rder Sam Horn signs w/@Dodgers for $497,500 ($347,500 counts vs pool). @MizzouBaseball RHP, 1st-rd stuff (fastball touches 98 mph, mid-80s sweeper), just 15 IP in three college seasons because of TJ surgery. Also plays QB & will return to Missouri to play football this fall pic.twitter.com/3iJ9emsYr2

West is the first prep player is the Dodgers’ class to sign a contract after the team was unable to come to terms with sixth-round pick Mason Ligenza, who plans to fulfill his commitment to the University of Pittsburg.
With a slot value of $544,900, the Dodgers went more than $700,000 over slot for West.
The Dodgers’ other high school selection, 20th-round pick Shane Brinham, chose to fulfill his commitment to the University of Michigan.
Horn probably had the most signability concerns of any selection in the Dodgers’ 2025 draft class, due to his commitment to continue playing football at the University of Missouri.
He fell all the way to the 17th-round because of that, in addition to previously having Tommy John surgery. Horn does offer intriguing upside.
Any pick after the 10th round can be signed for a maximum of $150,000 before it counts against a team’s bonus pool. The Dodgers offered Horn $347,500 over the limit and allowed him to continue playing at Missouri this fall in order to convince him to sign.
The Dodgers were able to offer the above-slot contract to West and the extra money to Horn because of their savings from earlier signings, including under-slot signings for their two supplemental first-round picks.
