Dodgers Rumors: Todd Boehly Joins Bidding For Washington Commanders

It has been over a decade since Frank McCourt sold the Los Angeles Dodgers to Guggenheim Baseball Management, a group headed by principle owner Mark Walter, team president and CEO Stan Kasten, and part-owners Todd Boehly, Peter Guber, Magic Johnson and Bobby Patton.

Boehly has several other business ventures as he owns minority stakes in the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Sparks, fantasy sports company DraftKings and esports organization Cloud9.

Boehly more recently was part of a consortium with Walter that purchased the Chelsea Football Club for a record $5.33 billion. Boehly who is the current CEO of Eldridge and Clearlake Capital Group, will share joint control and governance of the team, plus serve as chairman of the holding company.

According to Scott Abraham of 7News DC, Boehly is now making a strong push to buy the NFL’s Washington Commanders:

Boehly grew up in Bethesda, Maryland and currently has a net worth of $5.3 billion. He, along with Clearlake Capital partners Behdad Eghbali and Jose E. Feliciano reportedly had a deal in place last year to purchase minority ownership stakes in the Commanders, but it was vetoed by controversial owner Daniel Snyder.

Snyder made headlines this past November when he hired Bank of America to explore a potential sale of the Commanders. Along with Boehly, other potential bidders for the team include former Amazon president and CEO Jeff Bezos, and Philadelphia 76ers co-owner Josh Harris.

Snyder is said to be hoping to finalize a sale by March. To this point, he reportedly has received multiple bids for more than $6 billion.

Boehly is the second Dodgers part-owner in the last year to consider bidding for an NFL team. Last May, Johnson joined a bid group that was led by Harris for the Denver Broncos.

However, Johnson’s efforts fell short as the Broncos entered a sale agreement with the Walton-Penner family ownership group for a record $4.65 billion.
