Dodgers Rumors: Tanner Scott Signed To 4-Year Contract

The Los Angeles Dodgers have had a busy offseason thus far, already addressing their starting rotation, outfield and bullpen with the signings of Blake Snell, Roki Sasaki, Teoscar Hernandez, Michael Conforto, Hyeseong Kim and Blake Treinen.

Even with all those players in the mix, the Dodgers continued to look for more talent, specifically in the bullpen.

Devin Williams and Tanner Scott were both part of their search for high-leverage relief help, but the former was ultimately traded to the New York Yankees.

However, the Dodgers were able to add one of their targets. According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the Dodgers and Scott have agreed to a multi-year contract:

Scott was the top free agent reliever available, which put him in line to receive significant compensation. The 30-year-old was traded to the San Diego Padres at last year’s deadline from the Miami Marlins.

The left-hander posted a 1.75 ERA, 2.92 FIP and 1.13 WHIP across 72 innings while striking out 28.6% of hitters and walking 12.2%. It was his second consecutive season with more than 70 innings pitched and an ERA below 2.35.

Scott had a breakout season in 2023 after struggling to figure things out in the years prior. He owns a career 3.56 ERA in 368.2 innings with a 30.4% strikeout rate and 12.6% walk rate.

He becomes arguably the best reliever in a bullpen that also includes Treinen, Michael Kopech, Evan Phillips, Ryan Brasier, Alex Vesia and Anthony Banda.

The Dodgers also needed another arm to help replace the production lost with Daniel Hudson retiring and Brusdar Graterol out for more than half the season.

Scott has appeared in six postseason games in his career, throwing 5.1 innings while allowing no runs on two hits. He appeared in four National League Division Series games against the Dodgers this past season while recording a hold.

Dave Roberts hoped for addition to bullpen

Prior to the offseason truly kicking off, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts shared his wishlist of moves, which included a starting pitcher, bringing Teoscar Hernández back, re-signing Treinen, and another elite reliever for the bullpen.

The Dodgers have now completed his wishlist.
