The Los Angeles Dodgers have already had a busy offseason while coming off another World Series championship as they look to build a dynasty.
They started their spending by signing two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell, and they’ve also added Michael Conforto while re-signing Teoscar Hernández and Blake Treinen.
In addition, Tommy Edman was signed to a contract extension and the Dodgers have Roki Sasaki as one of their top priorities.
While those moves have given the Dodgers undoubtedly the best core in baseball, they still have some room to add depth and make upgrades.
One of those spots they can improve is in the bullpen, and the Dodgers remain interested in adding a high-leverage reliever, according to Jack Harris of the L.A. Times:
The bullpen is the biggest, with the team still interested in adding another high-leverage reliever.
The Dodgers have been searching for an elite bullpen arm for a significant part of the offseason with Tanner Scott and Devin Williams both being connected to them.
The Dodgers were in trade talks with the Milwaukee Brewers for Devin Williams, but he was ultimately dealt to the New York Yankees.
Scott remains a free agent and he’s been widely connected to the Dodgers. They also had interest in the left-hander dating back to the 2024 trade deadline before he was dealt to the San Diego Padres.
The Dodgers and Scott are believed to have mutual interest in getting a deal done, which gives makes for a strong starting point in negotiations.
The 30-year-old is one of the top relievers in baseball. During the regular season, Scott posted a 1.75 ERA, 2.92 FIP and 1.13 WHIP across 72 innings while striking out 28.6% of hitters and walking 12.2%. It was Scott’s second consecutive season with more than 70 innings pitched an an ERA below 2.35.
Scott appeared in four National League Division Series games against the Dodgers, recording a hold and allowing just two hits with no runs.
If he signs with the Dodgers, there would be a good case that Scott is the best reliever in their bullpen, which already has multiple elite arms, including Treinen, Michael Kopech, Evan Phillips and Alex Vesia.
Relief pitcher options for Dodgers
In addition to Scott, there are multiple options available in free agency who would fit the Dodgers bullpen as well.
Among the top candidates include Jeff Hoffman, Kirby Yates, David Robertson, Kenley Jansen, Carlos Estévez and Chris Martin.
