While there has bene plenty of speculation throughout the offseason of the Los Angeles Dodgers being in search of an outfielder, recent reports have also suggested second base is an area that may get addressed as well.
On the surface, it’s where Tommy Edman figures to spend to bulk of 2026 if his surgically-repaired right ankle does not allow for more time in center field. But the Dodgers are said to be among the teams interested in Bo Bichette, who may be likely to move on from the Toronto Blue Jays amid their pursuit of Kyle Tucker.
While the wait for those free agency dominoes to fall continues, the Dodgers reportedly added to their infield depth by claiming Ryan Fitzgerald off waivers from the Minnesota Twins, per Alden González of ESPN:
Sources: The Dodgers have claimed INF Ryan Fitzgerald from the Twins.
Fitzgerald, 31, spent 24 games in the majors last season and slashed .277/.367/.469 in 59 Triple-A games. Can play SS, 3B, 2B. He was DFA’d last week.

Fitzgerald was designated for assignment by the Twins at the beginning of the year in order to make room on their 40-man roster for Eric Wagaman. He was acquired by Minnesota in a trade that sent Minor League pitcher Kade Bragg to the Miami Marlins.
Fitzgerald, 31, made his MLB debut with the Twins last season. He appeared in 24 games and hit .196/.302/.457 with four home runs and nine RBI. While with Triple-A St. Paul last year, Fitzgerald batted .277/.367/.469 with 16 doubles, seven home runs and 31 RBI.
He has experience playing first base, second base, third base, shortstop and all three outfield positions. The bulk of Fitzgerald’s time in the Minors has come as a shortstop.
Fitzgerald played first base, second base, third base and shortstop for the Twins last season and also made a pair of pitching appearances.
Ryan Fitzgerald on Dodgers’ 40-man roster
By claiming Fitzgerald off waivers, the Dodgers once again have a full 40-man roster. An open spot was created last month when Esteury Ruiz was traded to the Marlins for Minor League pitcher Adriano Marrero.
Coincidentally, that prompted the Marlins to DFA Wagaman, which in turn led to trading him to the Twins and resulted in Fitzgerald going on waivers.
