While he attempted to prepare for the 2017 season and focus on helping the Los Angeles Dodgers win a World Series, Yasiel Puig has been faced with unsettling off-the-field trouble.
In March 2017, Puig’s home was burglarized and $170,000 worth of jewelry and other items were stolen. Despite valuables being taken, Puig downplayed the incident and said he was relieved no one was home at the time.
His house was then broken into during Game 7 of last year’s World Series, with the burglar making off with jewelry. Though in that case, the loss of value wasn’t nearly as large and said to be $150.
Puig nearly was the victim of another burglary but was able to deter intruders with assistance from his Ring alarm system, according to TMZ Sports:
Law enforcement sources tell TMZ … at around 11:15 PM Thursday after a Dodgers game Yasiel was not at his San Fernando Valley home when his RING doorbell went off on his phone.
We’re told Puig saw 2 guys trying to break into the house through the front door. He yelled at them through the phone and they beat a hasty retreat.
Aside from owning a home in an area where celebrities are known to live, it’s not believed Puig was targeted in this latest instance.
On the field, Puig just finished serving a two-game suspension after MLB denied his appeal of their initial ruling from last month’s benches-clearing brawl with San Francisco Giants catcher Nick Hundley.
