UPDATE (November 2, 2:15 p.m. PT): The Los Angeles Dodgers announced Max Muncy was signed to a two-year, $24 million contract that runs through the 2025 season.

Muncy’s new agreement includes a $10 million team option for 2026.

Along with MLB free agency starting Thursday morning, so too did the five-day window for the Los Angeles Dodgers to make decisions on contract options for six of their players, with Max Muncy among them.

Muncy went into the offseason still under team control for 2024 by way of a $14 million team option. It was included in a deal Muncy signed in August 2022. The team option had a base salary of $10 million but increased in value due to Muncy reaching incentives.

The Dodgers figured to exercise Muncy’s contract option despite some inconsistencies throughout this past season.

However, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Muncy and the Dodgers have agreed on a new two-year contract extension:

Muncy’s new deal appears to keep him on track to be part of the Dodgers through at least the 2025 season. Depending on how the remainder of the offseason and free agency unfolds, Muncy figures to again be their primary third baseman and also a candidate to fill the designated hitter spot.

While appearing in 751 games over parts of six seasons with the Dodgers, Muncy has hit .230/.356/.486 with 108 doubles, 175 home runs and 472 RBI. He’s additionally earned two All-Star Game selections.

Max Muncy contracts with Dodgers

Muncy originally joined the Dodgers in 2017 on a Minor League contract. In February 2020, he was signed to a three-year contract that included a $13 million team option (or $1.5 million buyout) for the 2023 season.

That then became fully guaranteed in August of last year when the Dodgers signed Muncy to a one-year, $13.5 million contract extension that included a $10 million team option with incentives for 2024.
