Dodgers Rumors: Lou Trivino Signed To Minor League Contract

The Los Angeles Dodgers have unexpectedly needed to rely on plenty of their organizational starting pitching depth due to multiple injuries, and the team has also been active in acquiring new relievers as well.

Among them have been Yoendrys Gómez, J.P. Feyereisen and Ryan Loutos. Gómez and Feyereisen have already received opportunities with the Dodgers, though the former was designated for assignment and has since been claimed off waivers by the Chicago White Sox.

As the Dodgers look to continue amassing pitching depth, they have signed Lou Trivino to a Minor League contract, according to Anthony Franco of MLB Trade Rumors:

Trivino was designated for assignment by the San Francisco Giants last weekend when the team recalled Kyle Harrison. He cleared waivers and elected free agency.

Trivino signed a Minor League deal with the Giants during the offseason and put together an impressive showing in Spring Training that earned him a spot on their Opening Day roster and thus $1.5 million salary.

However, the right-hander struggled once the season began as he pitched to a 5.84 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 11 appearances. The home run ball was of particular trouble for Trivino, as he gave up four in only 12.1 innings pitched.

The 33-year-old made his MLB debut with the Oakland Athletics in 2018 and it marked the start of being with the team for parts of five seasons. Trivino split the 2022 season with the A’s and New York Yankees.

He missed the entire 2023 and 2024 seasons because of Tommy John surgery and right elbow soreness that surfaced during the rehab process.

Can Lou Trivino help Dodgers?

Trivino once was a dominant closer for the Athletics and during his stint with the Yankees. Recent struggles could be rectified by working with Dodgers pitching coaches on various adjustments, which could come at Camelback Ranch or with Triple-A Oklahoma City.

At minimum, the Dodgers figure to consider Trivino for bullpen depth amid Evan Phillips going on the 15-day injured list and Michael Kopech just beginning a rehab assignment.
