Dodgers Rumors: Hunter Feduccia Joining Roster

The Los Angeles Dodgers boast a well of organizational catching depth that includes prospect Dalton Rushing and Hunter Feduccia, who by most accounts is Major League ready.

But Feduccia’s path to the Dodgers roster is seemingly blocked by Austin Barnes being entrenched as the backup catcher to Will Smith. The 27-year-old was on the travel roster for the Seoul Series but otherwise began the 2024 season with Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Feduccia has improved on his play with the Dodgers’ top affiliate from last season and now appears primed to reach the Majors for the first time.

According to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, the Dodgers are recalling Feduccia on Saturday:

Feduccia finished the 2022 season with Oklahoma City, spent all of last year there and has so far this season as well. During that span he’s hit a combined .276/.384/.456 with 46 doubles, 23 home runs and 124 RBI over 194 games.

In 2024, Feduccia is batting .295/.420/.451 with 14 doubles, five home runs and 42 RBI.

The Dodgers selected Feduccia in the 12th round of the 2018 MLB Draft. As part of the preparation for his eventual MLB debut, Feduccia was included in DodgerFest 2024 and this year’s Dodgers Love L.A. Community Tour.

How is Hunter Feduccia joining Dodgers?

Feduccia already is on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster, which avoids further complicating what’s already become somewhat of a crunch with players returning from the 60-day injured list. The Dodgers put him on their 40-man roster during the offseason to protect against potentially losing Feduccia in the Rule 5 Draft.

He presumably is now joining the Dodgers roster with Freddie Freeman expected to be away from the team for at least the next two games because one of his sons, Maximus, is dealing with an illness.
