The Los Angeles Dodgers are expected to return the majority of their World Series coaching staff for the 2025 season, but there remains some uncertainty with first base coach Clayton McCullough.
The 44-year-old is among the candidates under consideration to become the new manager of the Miami Marlins, who parted ways with Skip Schumaker at the end of the 2024 season.
McCullough was a candidate for the Chicago White Sox managerial opening as well, but lost out to Will Venable, who ended his playing career with the Dodgers during the 2016 season.
McCullough has reportedly interviewed twice with the Marlins and remains in the mix to become their new manager, via Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic:
While it appears that the Dodgers plan to return their coaching staff from their title run, there remains at least one piece in flux: first base coach Clayton McCullough remains in the running for the Miami Marlins’ managerial vacancy, interviewing twice before the World Series and again in-person after the Dodgers won the title, according to a person with knowledge of the situation
McCullough just completed his fourth season as the Dodgers first base coach and 10th overall with the organization.
He previously served as a Minor League field coordinator and helped oversee the Dodgers’ operations at the alternate site on the USC campus during the pandemic-shortened season.
Before joining the Dodgers organization, McCullough managed for seven seasons in the Toronto Blue Jays farm system.
Clayton McCullough to Marlins?
If the Marlins hire McCullough, he would become their 17th manager in franchise history and look to guide them to better results after posting a 62-100 record during the 2024 season.
Over recent years, McCullough has interviewed with or been connected to the New York Mets, Milwaukee Brewers, Cleveland Guardians and Kansas City Royals during their respective searches.
