The Los Angeles Dodgers have had the benefit of keeping their coaching staff together over the past few seasons, despite other teams showing interest in bringing some of them onboard.
First base coach Clayton McCullough has been a popular candidate for open managerial positions, interviewing for multiple openings over the last few years, including with the Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago White Sox, New York Mets, Cleveland Guardians and Kansas City Royals.
He also interviewed with the Miami Marlins this year, and he was among the finalists for their vacant job.
McCullough had two interviews with Miami before the World Series, and again in-person after the Dodgers won the championship. He seemingly impressed the Marlins management as they have named him their next manager, according to Alden González of ESPN:
BREAKING: The Marlins are hiring Dodgers 1B coach Clayton McCullough as their new manager, sources told ESPN.
McCullough, who has spent the last four seasons on Dave Roberts’ staff in LA, succeeds Skip Schumaker in Miami.

McCullough will replace Skip Schumaker as the Marlins manager, becoming their 17th manager in franchise history. He could take some other members of the Dodgers coaching staff with him for those looking for a promotion.
McCullough just completed his fourth season as the Dodgers first base coach and 10th overall with the organization.
He previously served as a Minor League field coordinator and helped oversee the Dodgers’ operations at the alternate site on the USC campus during the pandemic-shortened season.
Before joining the Dodgers organization, McCullough managed for seven seasons in the Toronto Blue Jays farm system.
Dodgers in need of new first base coach
With McCullough departing for Miami, the Dodgers will be tasked with finding a new first base coach among their other needs this offseason.
That could come from an internal promotion from either someone else on their Major League staff, or someone else in their organization currently in the Minor Leagues.
They could also make an external hire to keep the rest of their staff in place.
