The Los Angeles Dodgers activated Ryan Meisinger and recalled Zach McKinstry on Wednesday, the first day active rosters expanded to 28 players.

Meisinger joined the Dodgers organization on Tuesday when along with Jake Jewell, he was claimed off waivers from the Chicago Cubs. By adding Jewell and Meisinger before Sept. 1, both relief pitchers are eligible for the postseason play with the Dodgers.

So too is Andrew Vasquez, who was acquired in a trade from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for Minor League catcher Stevie Berman.

Meisinger didn’t earn a decision while pitching to a 12.27 ERA across seven appearances for the Cubs this year. He’s previously spent time in the Majors with the Baltimore Orioles (2018), St. Louis Cardinals (2019) and Cubs (2021), going a combined 2-1 with a 7.26 ERA.

In 171 Minor League games across six seasons, Meisinger is combined 14-13 with 23 saves in 24 chances and a 2.68 ERA. Meisinger was selected by the Orioles in the 15th round of the 2015 MLB Draft.

McKinstry returns to the Dodgers after being optioned Aug. 15 as the corresponding move to Darien Núñez returning from the injured list.

McKinstry has hit .217/.265/.408 with nine doubles, seven home runs and 29 RBI in 59 games with L.A. He began the season on the Opening Day roster and was filling a utility role before suffering an oblique strain.

Neuse, Raley removed from Dodgers 40-man roster

Sheldon Neuse and Luke Raley were both placed on the 60-day injured list for undisclosed reasons. Doing so removed both of them from the Dodgers’ 40-man roster and made room for the additions of Jewell and Meisinger.

Neuse and Raley had been with Triple-A Oklahoma City but were among the few players eligible to join the Dodgers on Wednesday.
