The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Wyatt Mills from Triple-A Oklahoma City and designated Jonathan Hernández for assignment prior to Tuesday’s game against the A’s.
Mills is on the Dodgers roster for a second time this season. He originally joined the organization last August on a Minor League contract.
The right-hander was a non-roster invitee to Spring Training this year and went on to start the season with the Comets. Mills had a 3.26 ERA across 19.1 innings with 28 strikeouts before getting called up in May.
Edwin Díaz was transferred to the 60-day injured list at the time in order to make room for Mills on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster. He went on to appear in four games before getting optioned May 19 when the Dodgers added Eric Lauer to the active roster.
Mills had prior MLB experience with the Seattle Mariners (2021 and 2022) and Kansas City Royals (2022). Including his time up with the Dodgers last month, the 31-year-old is a career 0-1 with a 6.35 ERA, 4.27 FIP and 1.65 WHIP across 42 games at the Major League level.
Mills’ latest stint with the Dodgers could be brief as Evan Phillips is nearing the completion of his rehab assignment.
Jonathan Hernández DFA
Hernández is now going through waivers one day after pitching 1.1 innings in the Dodgers’ win over the A’s.
Hernández yielded an 8.15 ERA, 6.38 FIP and 1.76 WHIP over 12 appearances for the Dodgers. He previously had been in the Majors with the Texas Rangers (2019-24) and Mariners (2024).
The Dodgers signed Hernández in the middle of May after he opted out of a Minor League contract with the Philadelphia Phillies. Hernández had joined the Phillies organization in January.
The right-hander went 1-0 with one save, a 4.80 ERA and 1.67 WHIP in 13 appearances for Triple-A Lehigh Valley before choosing to become a free agent.
Given that Hernández has the requisite service time, he will hold the option to refuse a Minor League assignment in favor of becoming a free agent if clearing waivers.
