Dodgers Roster: Victor Gonzalez, Caleb Ferguson & Tommy Kahnle Placed On 10-Day Injured List

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Victor Gonzalez, Caleb Ferguson and Tommy Kahnle on the 10-day injured list to begin the 2022 season. The moves correspond with the club announcing their Opening Day roster.

While it was expected that Ferguson and Kahnle would not begin the season with the Dodgers as they are rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, Gonzalez’s inclusion is more surprising. The left-hander is dealing with left elbow inflammation.

Gonzalez was having a strong spring and looked like a lock for the bullpen after a down 2021 season where he posted a 3.57 ERA, 4.27 FIP and 1.44 WHIP in 44 games.

For Ferguson, the southpaw is still on track with his recovery and has had no setbacks. The club planned on being cautious with him so they don’t need to limit him later in the season.

Ferguson posted a 2.89 ERA and 3.57 FIP while striking out 13.02 hitters per and walking just 1.45 per nine, but he was limited to just 18.2 innings prior to his injury. He then missed all of 2021 while recovering from the surgery.

The Dodgers also recently signed him to a one-year contract worth $762,500 to avoid arbitration.

Kahnle, who also missed the entire 2021 season, just recently made his first appearance in a live game since the surgery and needed a full Spring Training to prepare. 2022 Spring Training was cut short due to the MLB lockout.

Prior to his injury-shortened 2020 season, Kahnle had established himself as a key member of the New York Yankees bullpen. In 2019, he pitched to a 3.67 ERA, 3.33 FIP and 1.06 WHIP with 88 strikeouts and 20 walks over 61.1 innings (72 appearances).

Dustin May, Jimmy Nelson, Danny Duffy also on Dodgers’ injured list

The trio of relievers join Dustin May, Jimmy Nelson and Danny Duffy on the Dodgers’ IL. However, May, Nelson and Duffy are all on the 60-day IL.

May is expected to return after the All-Star break while he is still recovering from last year’s Tommy John surgery.

Nelson is unlikely to pitch this season after he went underwent Tommy John surgery and a flexor tendon repair last August.

Duffy is hopeful to return from his flexor tendon surgery around the middle of the 2022 season.
