The Los Angeles Dodgers optioned Tyson Miller to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday as the corresponding move to add Lance Lynn to their active roster.
Lynn was acquired along with Joe Kelly in a trade that sent Nick Nastrini, Jordan Leasure and Trayce Thompson to the Chicago White Sox. Kelly arrived at Dodger Stadium on Saturday and made his 2023 Dodgers debut that night.
Lynn joined the team prior to the series finale against the Cincinnati Reds and is scheduled to make his Dodgers debut on Tuesday.
Lynn went 6-9 with a 6.18 ERA, 5.22 FIP and 1.44 WHIP in 115 innings over 20 starts for the White Sox this season. He’s allowed an MLB-worst 79 earned runs and 28 home runs, and hopes joining the Dodgers will help lead to improved results.
“I’ve had some ups and downs this year, for sure. When you look at ERA, wins and losses, it’s the worst I’ve ever had in my career,” Lynn said.
“And then you look at strikeouts per nine and stuff like that, they’re the best I’ve ever had. Like I said, it’s been a weird year. Hopefully we can make suer the ERA and wins take care of themselves, and we keep the other things going in a positive direction. Maybe a change of scenery will help that.”
How did Dodgers acquire Tyson Miller?
The Dodgers traded for Miller on July 12, sending cash considerations to the Milwaukee Brewers. He had been designated for assignment on July 8 after appearing in a career-high seven games for the Brewers this season.
The 27-year-old turned in four scoreless appearances but struggled in other games. Miller threw a combined three scoreless innings in just two games for Oklahoma City before getting recalled by the Dodgers on July 26.
He joined the active roster in place of Justin Bruihl, who has since been designated for assignment.
Miller made his Dodgers debut in last Wednesday’s loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. He allowed three runs over two innings of relief.
Miller was selected out of California Baptist University by the Chicago Cubs in the fourth round of the 2016 MLB Draft. Miller made his MLB debut with the Cubs in 2020, though only appeared in two games (one start).
He remained part of the Cubs organization through the end of May 2021 before getting DFA’d and claimed off waivers by the Texas Rangers. Miller spent a portion of the 2022 season with the Rangers, pitching to a 10.97 ERA and 2.25 WHIP in four games (two starts).
