Dodgers Roster: Tyson Miller Claimed Off Waivers By Mets

The New York Mets claimed Tyson Miller off waivers on Friday, which came two days after he was designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

A waiver claim is among the various roster moves permitted despite the MLB trade deadline having passed.

The Dodgers DFA’d Miller as a corresponding move to make room for Ryan Pepiot on their 40-man roster in his return from the 60-day injured list. Although Pepiot was activated, the Dodgers immediately optioned him to Triple-A Oklahoma City, where the right-hander had been completing a rehab assignment.

Miller is now playing for his third team of the season. He began the year with the Milwaukee Brewers but was designated for assignment and traded to the Dodgers on July 12 for cash considerations.

Miller joined the Dodgers’ active roster in place of Justin Bruihl, who went on to be designated for assignment and traded to the Colorado Rockies for cash considerations.

Miller appeared in just one game for the Dodgers, allowing three runs over two innings against the Toronto Blue Jays on July 26.

He now reunites with Phil Bickford and Adam Kolarek as well, both of whom the Dodgers traded to the Mets at the deadline for cash considerations. Bickford is on the Mets’ active roster, while Kolarek and Miller are with Triple-A Syracuse.

Miller was selected out of California Baptist University by the Chicago Cubs in the fourth round of the 2016 MLB Draft. Miller made his MLB debut with the Cubs in 2020, though only appeared in two games (one start).

He remained in the Cubs organization through the end of May 2021 before getting DFA’d and claimed off waivers by the Texas Rangers. Miller spent a portion of the 2022 season with the Rangers, pitching to a 10.97 ERA and 2.25 WHIP in four games (two starts).
