Dodgers Roster: Tyson Miller Added, Gavin Stone Optioned

The Los Angeles Dodgers added Tyson Miller to their active roster and optioned Gavin Stone prior to Monday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Miller was claimed off waivers from the New York Mets on Sunday. It marked a return to the Dodgers organization as the right-hander originally was acquired in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers in July.

Miller had been designated for assignment on July 8 after appearing in a career-high seven games for the Brewers this season. He then pitched in just one game with the Dodgers before getting DFA’d as a corresponding move to Ryan Pepiot returning from the 60-day injured list.

The Mets claimed Miller off waivers, though he only appeared in one game for the team. Miller was designated for assignment last week as one of two moves by the Mets to add Sean Reid-Foley to their roster.

With Miller on the Dodgers’ active roster for a second time this season, he would need to be DFA’d if the team looks to remove him. Miller has already been optioned to the Minor Leagues five times, which is the maximum number permitted for a single season.

As for Stone, he returns to the Minors one day after filling a bulk role for the Dodgers. Caleb Ferguson served as an opener, then Stone pitched six-plus innings.

He had allowed only two runs — on a Triston Casas homer that was a fly ball that had just enough carry to clear the Green Monster — but then surrendered back-to-back shots to Justin Turner and Adam Duvall to in the bottom of the eighth.

Stone nevertheless earned his first career win and is 1-0 with a 10.50 ERA and 2.28 ERA in five games (three starts) for the Dodgers.

Tyson Miller’s MLB stats

Over parts of three seasons with the Chicago Cubs, Texas Rangers, Brewers, Dodgers and Mets, Miller is a career 2-2 with a 7.45 ERA and 1.62 WHIP in 15 games (three starts).

Miller was selected out of California Baptist University by the Chicago Cubs in the fourth round of the 2016 MLB Draft. Miller made his MLB debut with the Cubs in 2020, though only appeared in two games (one start).
