The Los Angeles Dodgers transferred Tyler Glasnow to the 60-day injured list, opening up a spot on the 40-man roster for Chuckie Robinson, who was claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels.
Glasnow was first placed on the 15-day IL on April 28 with right shoulder inflammation. With the move to the 60-day IL, he is now eligible to return on Friday, June 27.
The roster move is less indicative of the health of Glasnow, and more one that was made to open up the needed space on the 40-man.
He threw his first bullpen session earlier last week and remains on track to be the first injured Dodgers starter to return from the injured list.
But the 31-year-old just began his throwing program about three weeks ago, so it’s going to take some time for him to fully build back up. Glasnow still has to throw multiple bullpen sessions, face hitters, and go on a rehab assignment of likely three to four starts.
That puts Glasnow more than a month away from his return, so the roster move does not affect his timeline.
Glasnow has been limited in three of his five starts this season.
The was shortened against the Philadelphia Phillies on April 6 — largely due to rainy weather. Glasnow then dealt with cramps that forced him out of the game, and then the shoulder injury the third time.
The right-hander has been frustrated by the injury issues, especially after working in the offseason to adjust his mechanics and training in an attempt to stay healthy.
He also saw his 2024 season end early because of right elbow tendinitis.
Glasnow has made five starts this season, going 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA in 18 innings. In two seasons with the Dodgers, he is 10-6 with a 3.61 ERA in 27 starts.
Tyler Glasnow IL move makes room for Chuckie Robinson
Robinson was designated for assignment on Wednesday by the Angels. The catcher was batting .272 with one homer and 18 RBI with Triple-A Salt Lake City.
The 30-year-old made his Major League debut in 2022 with the Cincinnati Reds, playing 25 games and clubbing two homers and driving in five. He has been in the Majors parts of two seasons with the Reds and the Chicago White Sox (2024), slashing .132/.170/.194 with two doubles and two homers. He has a .992 fielding percentage and is 12-for-48 in runners caught stealing.
