Dodgers Roster: Tyler Cyr Sent Outright To Triple-A Oklahoma City

The Los Angeles Dodgers outrighted Tyler Cyr to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday, thus removing him from their 40-man roster. The move comes after Cyr cleared waivers in a transaction that had not been previously reported.

Cyr coming off the Dodgers’ 40-man roster is of note as free agency is due to begin the morning after the World Series concludes. That also will start the clock on the Dodgers needing to make decisions with the six players they hold a contract option on for the 2024 season.

Later into November, the team will also have to tender contracts to arbitration-eligible players, along with add eligible Minor Leaguers to their 40-man roster to protect from losing them in the Rule 5 Draft.

As it currently stands, the Dodgers project to have 33 players on their 40-man roster when free agency begins. Though, that includes the six players with a contract option for next season.

For Cyr, he’s going to have the option of becoming a Minor League free agent. He joined the organization this past January by signing a Minor League deal that included a non-roster invite to Spring Training.

Cyr was picked by the San Francisco Giants in the 10th round of the 2015 MLB Draft. He was granted free agency in November 2021 and went on to sign with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Cyr made his MLB debut with the Phillies in 2022, but only appeared in one game before getting designated for assignment the following day as a corresponding move to Philadelphia selecting the contract of Michael Plassmeyer.

The Oakland Athletics claimed Cyr off waivers and provided him with more of an opportunity. The 29-year-old went 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA, 3.04 FIP and 1.08 WHIP in 11 games for the A’s. Included in his time with Oakland was Cyr producing a 30.8% strikeout rate.

Tyler Cyr stats with Dodgers

Cyr struggled with Oklahoma City but threw a combined 1.2 scoreless innings for the Dodgers in back-to-back appearances in May. However, he was subsequently placed on the 15-day injured list on May 23 (retroactive to May 21) because of a right shoulder impingement.

Cyr then was transferred to the 60-day IL three days later and didn’t pitch again until August, but only made four appearances split between the Arizona Complex League (ACL) Dodgers and OKC.
