Dodgers Roster: Tyler Cyr Called Up, Andre Jackson Optioned To Oklahoma City

The Los Angeles Dodgers selected the contract of Tyler Cyr and optioned Andre Jackson to Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to Friday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

It marked a third consecutive day a relief pitcher who helped take a burden off the Dodgers bullpen was removed from the roster the next afternoon. The streak began with Justin Bruhil, who has since been recalled because of Dustin May’s injury, and also included Dylan Covey getting designated for assignment.

Jackson threw 61 pitches over 3.1 innings in the series opener at Busch Stadium. He initially got through three scoreless innings, which played a part in the Dodgers’ attempted comeback, but ran into trouble in the eighth and was ultimately charged for three runs in the 16-8 loss.

The 27-year-old has now been optioned three times this season, which is most on the Dodgers. MLB roster rules only allow for a maximum of five Minor League options per player, per season.

Jackson was among three relief pitchers the Dodgers used after only getting nine outs from Julio Urías on Thursday. Over the past four days the Dodgers bullpen has pitched 26 innings, compared to just 12 from starters.

Cyr last pitched for Oklahoma City on Tuesday, throwing one inning of relief. The right-hander overall is 2-1 with a 4.86 ERA and 1.62 WHIP in 15 games for OKC this season.

Cyr has previous MLB experience with the Philadelphia Phillies and Oakland Athletics, making a combined 12 appearances for the teams last year. The 30-year-old went 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 13.1 innings pitched in those games.

He was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 10th round of the 2015 MLB Draft.

How did Tyler Cyr end up with Dodgers?

The Dodgers signed Cyr to a Minor League contract in January and included among the Dodgers’ non-roster invitees to 2023 Spring Training. He appeared in seven Cactus League games, with four of those being scoreless efforts.
