The Los Angeles Dodgers activated Tanner Scott off the 15-day injured list and optioned Matt Sauer back to Triple-A Oklahoma City before Friday’s game against the San Diego Padres.
Sauer returns to the Minors one day after he was added onto the Dodgers’ roster as a fresh arm for the bullpen. He replaced Paul Gervase and pitched two innings in the Dodgers’ 9-4 win at Coors Field.
This now marks a fifth time Sauer has been optioned to the Minor Leagues this season. That’s the most allowed for one year under the current collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
If the Dodgers are to recall Sauer at some point again in 2025, he would need to pass through waivers if they looked to then remove him from their roster prior to the regular season concluding.
Sauer is 2-1 with a 6.37 ERA and 1.45 WHIP across 10 games (one start) for the Dodgers this year. He joined the organization on a Minor League contract in January.

Scott is back with the Dodgers one month after going on the injured list due to left elbow inflammation. It’s a surprise in some sense, considering Scott left his appearance on July 21 due to feeling what Dodgers manager Dave Roberts called a “a sting sensation.”
The Dodgers did hold some optimism that evening based on manual testing done, and an MRI the following afternoon validated that as it revealed only inflammation and not any structural damage.
Scott began a throwing program just over one week later and started what amounted to a brief rehab assignment on Tuesday. Scott struck out two batters in a scoreless inning of work for the Comets.
That his rehab assignment consisted of just one game is a byproduct of Scott feeling fully recovered from the injury. Scott didn’t face batters until Aug. 15, which was moved up from the Dodgers’ initial expectation.
“I feel like I was ready to do it a few days ago,” Scott said after throwing 22 pitches to hitters. “But it’s just whatever the team says. Just going to follow that. … Everything felt good. That’s probably the biggest thing, is everything felt good coming out.
“My mechanics felt good, and just going to keep rolling with it.”
Scott is 1-2 with 19 saves, seven blown saves, a 4.17 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 47 appearances this season.
