Dodgers Roster: Roki Sasaki Placed On Injured List, J.P. Feyereisen Recalled

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Roki Sasaki on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder impingement and recalled J.P. Feyereisen from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to Tuesday’s game against the Athletics.

Feyereisen is back with the Dodgers less than one week after he was optioned as the corresponding move to Landon Knack being recalled for a start against the Miami Marlins. It was the end of a short stint for Feyereisen, who had just been added to the Dodgers roster the day prior.

The right-hander is back with the organization after also pitching for the Dodgers in 2024. He signed a Minor League contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks during the offseason.

Feyereisen originally joined the team in December 2022, when the Dodgers traded Minor League pitcher Jeff Belge to the Tampa Bay Rays for Feyereisen, who at the time was facing a prolonged recovery from right shoulder surgery.

Feyereisen didn’t pitch at all during the 2023 season but was included on the Dodgers’ Opening Day roster for the Seoul Series in 2024. He’s appeared in one game for L.A. so far this season.

Roki Sasaki’s injury

Sasaki is on the injured list for the first time in his young career. That makes three starters the Dodgers are currently without from their Opening Day rotation, with Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell on the mend from respective shoulder injuries.

“He was disappointed that he didn’t go deeper, but spirits were fine,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts answered when asked how Sasaki felt after his start against the Diamondbacks last week.

The outing was Sasaki’s first of his career on five days of rest instead of six.

“He was a little bit sore afterwards, and that’s something we’re still trying to figure out what’s normal, what’s kind of not normal. We want to make sure he’s in a good spot physically and mentally,” Roberts said when pressed further.

He also suggested a physical ailment was a factor in Sasaki’s fastball velocity continuing to decline since the start of the season.
