The Los Angeles Dodgers signed pitchers Robbie Erlin, Cole Duensing, and Sam Gaviglio, and catcher Chris Betts according to Baseball America’s Minor League transactions page. The terms of the deals weren’t announced, but they are Minor League contracts considering the MLB lockout remains ongoing.
Of the four players, the 31-year-old Erlin has the most MLB experience, pitching at the Major League level over parts of seven seasons. His most recent action came in 2020 with the Atlanta Braves when he posted an 8.49 ERA, 6.75 FIP and 1.46 WHIP over 23.1 innings (seven games, five starts).
Duensing, 23, previously announced on Twitter that he signed a contract with the Dodgers. He spent the 2021 season with the L.A. Angels’ High-A affiliate, posting a 6.30 ERA and 1.57 WHIP with 33 strikeouts against 18 walks over 30 innings in 30 games.
Duensing also appeared in two games with the Kansas City Monarchs of the American Association of Professional Baseball, allowing five runs on five hits across two innings of work.
Gaviglio, 31, saw time with the Texas Rangers’ Triple-A affiliate last year. In five starts for the Round Rock Express, he went 2-1 with a 5.13 ERA and 1.41 WHIP with 24 strikeouts against four walks over 26.1 innings pitched.
Gaviglio has pitched in parts of five MLB seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays, Kansas City Royals and Seattle Mariners. He last saw time at the Major League level in 2020, yielding three runs over three innings.
Betts, 24, also announced on Twitter that he signed a deal with the Dodgers. He split the 2021 season between the Tampa Bay Rays’ Rookie-level and Double-A affiliates, batting a combined .149/.281/.284 with four home runs, two doubles and 14 RBI over 89 plate appearances in 27 games.
Dodgers’ Minor League signings
In addition to the aforementioned players, the Dodgers have signed Stefen Romero, Tomas Telis, Eddy Alvarez, Jason Martin, Beau Burrows and Yefry Ramirez to Minor League contracts throughout the offseason.
Ramirez remained with the organization after becoming a Minor League free agent. He appeared in one game for the Dodgers last season.
