The Los Angeles Dodgers transferred River Ryan to the 60-day injured list, clearing a spot on the 40-man roster amid a flurry of roster transactions on Monday.

In addition, the Dodgers activated Max Muncy and Tommy Edman off the 60-day IL while Nick Ahmed was designated for assignment, and Andy Pages got optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Hunter Feduccia was recalled as well with Austin Barnes going on the injured list.

Ryan suffered a UCL strain in his right elbow during a start on Aug. 10 that requires Tommy John surgery to address. Ryan is out for the remainder of the season, and likely all of 2025 as well.

Ryan expressed hope the injury would not be too serious, and originally he tried to stay in the game.

He first experienced forearm discomfort during the third inning of his final start, but used a Theragun in the dugout and continued pitching without alerting the Dodgers training staff.

Ryan then felt more discomfort in the fifth inning and was removed from the game after a brief conversation with Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and head athletic trainer Thomas Albert after they noticed him in pain on the mound.

Ryan remained optimistic his injury was not serious, but additional testing the following morning revealed that the damage was worse than he hoped.

The right-hander was only four starts into his MLB career and had been a pleasant surprise for the Dodgers, going 1-0 with a 1.33 ERA, 3.38 FIP and 1.18 WHIP in 20.1 innings at the big league level.

The 25-year-old also pitched for the Arizona Complex League Dodgers, Single-A Rancho Cucamonga and Oklahoma City Baseball Club prior to making his mlb debut.

River Ryan joins list of injured Dodgers pitchers

In addition to Ryan, the list of pitchers on the Dodgers’ injured list includes Connor Brogdon, Nick Frasso, Tyler Glasnow, Tony Gonsolin, Brusdar Graterol, Kyle Hurt, Dustin May, Emmet Sheehan, Blake Treinen and Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
