Dodgers Roster: Nick Ramirez Added As 27th Man For Doubleheader

The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Nick Ramirez from Triple-A Oklahoma City to serve as the 27th man on their roster for the doubleheader against the New York Mets.

The two clubs were scheduled to begin their series on Monday, but it was postponed due to inclement weather, setting up a doubleheader on Tuesday.

MLB rules state a club is allowed to carry an additional player on their active roster for doubleheaders, increasing their roster size from 26 players to 27. The player is then returned to the Minor Leagues following the completion of the doubleheader.

Typically, a player must stay in the Minor Leagues for 10 days after being optioned, or 15 for a pitcher, but there is no minimum for a player who serves as the 27th man, so the Dodgers could recall him immediately, if they chose.

Ramirez returns for his fourth stint with the Dodgers, previously appearing in six games. He’s posted a 3.86 ERA with a 1.50 WHIP in 9.1 innings pitched with three strikeouts.

In his last stint with the club, Ramirez pitched 2.1 innings, allowing three runs on five hits with two walks and one strikeout.

He was optioned the following day to make room for Ricky Vanasco as part of a series of roster moves that also included optioning James Outman and placing Max Muncy on the 10-day injured list.

The Southern California native has been in the Major Leagues parts of five seasons with the Detroit Tigers (2019-20), San Diego Padres (2021), New York Yankees (2023) and Dodgers (2024).

He was acquired by the Dodgers in early April after being designated for assignment by the Yankees. In 2023, he struck out 28 batters in 40.2 innings, finishing the season with a career-best 2.66 ERA while recording one save in two chances.

Nick Ramirez earned praise from Dave Roberts

Ramirez turned in his best outing of the season against the Washington Nationals on Jackie Robinson Day as he pitched two scoreless innings to help give the Dodgers’ bullpen a much-needed break, earning praise from manager Dave Roberts.
